Žižek To Ocalan: You Are One Of Few Leaders Who Should Be Supported Unconditionally

Slovenian philosopher Slavoj Žižek has sent a letter to Leader Abdullah Ocalan drawing attention to the Leader's profound and principled stance in his willingness to make difficult decisions that will benefit both the Kurds and the Turks.

Slavoj Žižek, a Slovenian philosopher and one of the leading figures in Marxist thought, wrote a letter to Abdullah Ocalan. The letter, which Žižek sent to the Imrali delegation, reads as follows:

“Dear Abdullah Ocalan,

Today, there are leaders whom we feel compelled to support only because they represent the least bad option among two or three bad choices. However, choosing between bad options never brings a solution; it merely produces a compromise that carries within itself the seeds of its own failure.

You are one of the very few leaders who can and should be supported unconditionally. This is because you combine a principled stance and a profound, theory-based approach with sound pragmatism and a willingness to make difficult decisions.

You are fully aware that the struggle you are waging for the Kurds is not a struggle against the Turks. If you succeed, it will not be only the Kurds who benefit; both sides will win. All citizens of Turkey will enjoy greater freedom, peace, and prosperity.”
